WATER MANAGEMENT

INTEGRATED FLOUROSIS MITIGATION

Excessive fluoride intake results in multi dimensional health problems, most common being dental, skeletal and non-skeletal flourosis.

Challenges
Flouride concentration in ground water above permissible limit.
Depletion of water table leading to increase in concentration of fluoride.
Increase in flourosis (dental, skeletal and non-skeletal due to intake of fluoride water through water and food.
Lack of information and alternative technique to avoid flourosis.

Major activities

1. Rainwater harvesting & recharging system: Rain water is collected in storage tank as per the roof area of any building and requirement of the community. The excess rainwater is used for recharging.
2. Dilution technology: Mixing of rain water with flouridated water by providing a 32mm GI pipe for rain water and 15mm GI pipe for flouridated water and by providing a T socket or a small chamber (75% rain water 25% flouridated water).

Operation and maintenance

Cleaning of roof before rainy season.
First flush rain water through flush point.
Color coding of every pipe.
Chlorination and water testing 2 to 3 times in a year.

Benefits

Availability of safe water for drinking and cooking.
Reduction in the concentration of chemicals through ground water recharging.
Mitigation of flourosis.
