1. Fundamentals of GIS and Applications Concepts

 

Objective:

The training programme aims at imparting the basic necessary knowledge on GIS, operations of various GIS packages and of hardware peripherals used in the GIS environment etc. The programme would also emphasise the utility and applications of GIS in day to day working in various environments and for different levels of officials. The course is designed to balance the theory and hands on experience on GIS packages whereby each trainee would be able to independently operate these packages and appreciate their applications. At the same time, the lectures by visiting faculty, based on field level and management level applications of GIS would form an important and very useful component of the course.

Contents of the course:

Overview of GIS, features of CAD and GIS packages. Various Hardware and Software used for GIS applications, means to input (scan, vectorise) maps and output (plotting) of maps. Detailed steps of GIS, creation of maps. Quality checks, drawing and editing tools, Import and Export of drawing/map files, Attaching databases, and data to map boundaries, regions, introduction of development tools (programming) and other mapping packages. Creation of Sample GIS, Hands-on Mini GIS Project.

 
 
Special Visiting lecture Series: 
 
Apart from hardcore training on GIS operation, special visiting lectures from eminent GIS application experts are also organised which would cover topics such as use and relevance of cartography in data representation, micro level planning with GIS, watershed planning with GIS, 
Use of GIS in planning and monitoring, various applications, future trends in GIS, etc.

2. Training Programme on Watershed and Soil Conservation

National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment under takes in depth training programme on the subject of water and Soil Conservation. NCHSE has been recognised as one of major training resource organisations by Central and State Government. Various NGOs also avil the opportunity of training provided by NCHSE. There are four types of training programmes organised by NCHSE for Project Officers (PO), Project Implementation Agency (PIA) and Watershed Development Teams (WDT).

The programme for Project Officers and PIA member is for 6 days and covers all the related subjects with a full day of field visit to the area where the watershed programme is under implementation along with interaction with Self Help Groups, Users Group, Women Saving Groups., etc, Second training programme relates to PRA/Micro Planning Orientation which is for 4 days and is generally organised at the field level for PIA members. Third programme relates to nursery and plantation which is for 3 days. The fourth programme relates to Soil and Moisture Conservation for 2 days. The third and fourth programmes are also organised at the field level.

The cost of these training programmes is Rs. 2000/- per head for the week long programme i.e. first one and respectively Rs. 25,000/-, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000/- for the next three programmes which is the total expenditure for about 30 participants per programme of 4,3 and 2 days.

NCHSE undertakes these training programmes under the able and experienced guidance from Dr.K.G.Vyas the Member Secretary, who was Advisor Watershed Mission, Madhya Pradesh, and other faculty members having specialization in these training programmes Dr. A.K. Gupta, Executive Director and Shri V. Saraf, Director Computers. Services from Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) from Agriculture University, Jabalpur, Agriculture College, Sehore and Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) are also drawn as and when required.
