Rural Computer Application-cum-Counseling and Information Centre

"The recent hype in Information Technology all around then world also made India join the race so much so that it is now predicted that India alone can suffice the total world's demand of IT professionals and related services.

When we talk of IT the basic perception includes hardware (multimedia with modem and other amenities) related software and off course a liveware (user) sitting in a cosy room preferably with an A. C. Now if IT is to make the world compact and smaller and intent to make information available to one and all, then the above perception might fail when we consider the majority of the population (i.e. the rural lot).

Let alone the systems & the air-conditioning, they can't even imagine of a well furnished accommodation and intelligent operators, practically. So does this mean that they are to be left out of the process of networking, information . exchange & development? Certainly NOT

Even if they can't be efficient users of IT systems at least it could be made to serve them in whatever way they want.

Furthermore, expecting them to leave their fields, forests & pastures & log on with a computer wouldn't be an intelligent proposition.

To achieve such an objective, the National Centre for Human Settlements & Environment, (NSHSE) Bhopal with support from the Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India has taken the initiative to establish a Village Information-cum-Counseling centre at Luniyakhedi village of Tarana block of Ujjain District (M. P.) for supporting Rural Development.

Also known as the "SAMADHAN KENDRA" (Information Centre) at the Gram Panchayat equipped with computers, peripherals, telephone links etc. we intend to :-

NCHSE hopes that it will go a long way in overcoming the seclusion of the rural people from the outer modern world & would make them participate in nation building in a more scientific & planned manner.

In other words satisfying a part of the SIPHONING UP policy of planning & not the TRICKLING DOWN phenomenon. We would like to invite suggestions from individuals & organisations who share our view & would like to make our endeavour or rather the people's endeavour------ A SUCCESS."

Objectives

Maintain an upto date inventory of socio-economic resources & activities of the villagers.
Assist them in their day to day & long term problems which tend to be hindrances in the way of sustainable rural development.
Link them with the local, district & state administrative machinery to involve both of them in knowledge exchange.
Gradually enable them to access & send information whenever & wherever required & in a way make the villagers feel their responsibility to look after the centre & ensure its sustainability.
Serve as a model for the whole country & other organisations, as a tool for achieving sustainable rural development.
